Get in touch
Whether you are a contributor with a story to tell or a reader with a question about our archives, our desk is always open to the maritime community.
What to expect
We are a small, focused team. When you contact The Amsbel Journal, you are speaking directly to the people who produce the publication. We aim to respond to all editorial inquiries within three working days. If you are submitting a pitch for a long-read essay, please ensure you have reviewed our about page to understand our tone and requirements.
Our office is located within the historic Portsmouth Dockyard. While we are primarily a working studio, we welcome visitors by appointment on Friday afternoons for archival viewing and coffee. Please call ahead to ensure someone is available to show you through our collection of maritime maps and early journal drafts.
Common Enquiries
Submission Guidelines
We look for deeply researched pieces between 3,000 and 7,000 words. We prefer pitches that focus on a specific geographical point or a specific architectural element of a harbour.
Archival Access
Researchers may request access to our digital database of harbour surveys. These are provided free of charge for non-commercial academic use. Please see our terms of service for usage rights.
